• Introduction
Most people like weekends. They make them both excited and relaxed. This paper will discuss how people spend weekends in Kumamoto and Minnesota. Both countries have good places; for example malls, downtown, mountains, rivers and so on. The largest mall in Minnesota (Mall Of America) is in Minneapolis. This paper will compare that mall and Kumamoto’s mall as well as compare other places and acts of people on weekends.
To answer these questions, before this trip, I prepared a questionnaire and most of the Kumamoto students answered it. There were a lot of answers. I could know about how people spend weekends in Kumamoto. After arriving in Minnesota, I went to malls and saw several good places in Minnesota, and talked with my host family about how they spend weekends in Minnesota, about American culture, religion, food, about life style and custom in Minnesota. I gave the questionnaire and all of host family answered it. There were a lot of good and funny answers. I could know about how people spend weekends in Minnesota.
2. In Kumamoto
Young people often go shopping, drinking, driving and Karaoke in Kumamoto. There are some malls, for example Hikarinomori, Ieon mall and Sanpian. People sometimes go there, and spend their time shopping and eating lunch. Young people also sometimes go downtown. There are a lot of stores. We go there, and hang out with friends and boyfriends or girlfriends. Downtown, there are many drinking restaurants too, so young people go there, and enjoy drinking. Driving is another pleasure of young people. Kumamoto has many beautiful places; for example Mt. Aso and Amakusa. Mt. Aso has many beautiful forests. When it is fine, young people drive there and enjoy nature. Also the mountain has a nice night view. People often look at this sight. In summer, young people go to the beach. Amakusa is one good place for beaches in Kumamoto. Young people spend their time playing beach volleyball, fishing, swimming and eating shaved ice.
According to my study abroad survey, KGU university students usually go shopping, meet friends or date, stay home and work part time on weekends. They often go shopping downtown or shopping malls. A few people answered they sometime go to spa and sports gym or pool, so they must be very healthy. Almost all of them spend time with their friends on weekends. When they spend time with their family on the weekend, they often go to shopping and eat dinner. When they spend it with friends, they often go downtown and to shopping malls. When they spend with boyfriends or girlfriends, they go to shopping malls, movies, drive, other towns and so on. Finally, they spend from 2,000 to as much as 15,000 yen on weekends.
3. In Minnesota
In Minnesota, there is also much beautiful nature. For example, there are a lot of lakes, beautiful flowers, a lot of huge parks and so on. There are about 10,000 lakes in Minnesota. People in Minnesota often spend their time there. They walk in the park looking at cute flowers, and they enjoy swimming at the lake. Some people in Minnesota go to lake homes, and they ride cruisers and jet-skis. They enjoy summer sports. Also, people in Minnesota go to some leisure places.
There are huge malls in Minnesota. One of the mall’s names is “Mall of America”. It is said that to be the second biggest mall in the world (“Mall of America”, online). There are about 520 stores in the mall. People in Minnesota sometimes go there, and they go shopping. There is a big amusement park there too. People in Minnesota go there and play with their family and friends. There are some smaller malls in the suburbs, and people go to them too.
According to my study abroad survey, people in Minnesota usually stay home, go shopping, meet friends or date and go out to eat on weekends. A few people sometimes travel, drive and go to church. There are many Christians in America, so there are many churches there. Next, people in Minnesota usually spend their time with family and friends on weekends. They usually go to restaurants, movies, parks and so on. A few people answered that they sometimes go camping, lake, yard sales and golfing in Minnesota. Golfing in Minnesota is so fun, and not as expensive as in Japan. Finally, people in Minnesota spend about 10 ~ 150 dollars on weekends. Surprisingly, one person answered that he doesn’t spend money on weekends.
• Conclusion
It seems that how to spend weekends in Minnesota and how to spend weekends in Kumamoto are similar, because both areas have a lot of wonderful nature and useful downtown areas. Sometimes we go to Mt. Aso. We have nice and beautiful beaches and mountains. People in Minnesota sometimes enjoy its beautiful nature in weekends, such as swimming in some beautiful lakes. There is no ocean, because it is surrounded by other land. However, when it is winter in Minnesota, people enjoy playing ice hockey on the lakes. Ice hockey is one of most famous sports in Minnesota.
On the other hand, in Kumamoto, we enjoy swimming at the sea in summer. There are a few lakes, but the water is dirty, so we can’t swim in the lakes. We can play sports at the beaches, such as volleyball, but it’s not a famous sport in Kumamoto. The most famous spectator sport is soccer, because Kumamoto has a professional soccer team. The name is Roasso. Perhaps we need famous sports that can coexist with the nature of Kumamoto.
In Minnesota, there are two big downtowns. They are Minneapolis and St. Paul. People sometimes go there, and go shopping and eat something. There is a wider variety of stores than in Kumamoto. Moreover, there are a lot of malls and grocery stores in Minnesota. People often buy things on weekends.
In Kumamoto, there are some malls and one downtown. The downtown is not huge, but there are a lot of clothes stores, restaurant, and other useful stores. We sometime go there, and enjoy ourselves. Though this trip and survey, we see that both countries have downtown and beautiful nature, so we can spend comfortably every weekend.

Guladuation Party
Sun/17/August
Today was gulaguation celemony. Most of girl wore Japanese Yukata. They were so cute. Before party, I hung out with Ali. She is so kind. We went to the place where have many art goods on the field. First, we watched a object. It looks like funny thing. There was a cherry on the spone. It was so huge. It seems famous place in Minnesota. And we walked flower garden. There were a lot of beautiful flowers in the plastic greenhouse. And we went ti chai the store. It was good taste. We took many pictures in the store. We came back house. And we went to bethel univercity.
Guladuation party was so good!!!! We watched DVD. It took us. We were laughing each other. And we recived testimonial. We guladuated bethel univercity. After that, we took many picture. I had a fun time.

United Noodle
Saturday/16/August
At noon, I went to “United noodles”. There were many Asian foods. Of cause there were many Japanese foods. Especially, there were many Japanese noodles. I like it. I looked at many things around here. As I want to drink Japanese green tea, I bought it. When I look at other things, a woman said me,”Are you Japanese?” I surprised but I said, “Yes, but why did you find?” She said, “Because you have a Japanese green tea.” And she said, “Did you come from in Kumamoto?” I really really surprised and said, “Yes, but why did you find?” She answered “Did you stayed in lake? I stayed over there.” when we went to lake, there were Japanese women under the tree. She was one of them!!!! I really surprised and glad, because I didn’t think that I can speak Japanese in here expect our students. I introduced her host family and we expected about our meet. She talked with Maria in English. Her English was fluently. I thought I want to be like her. After that, as I gained weight, I walked around house. I walked about 50 minutes. I was beating and I took a nap. After nap, I went to Srallow’s house. She was one of host family. Today was our party. We made many cookies (We looked to make cookies), and we played ballyball and tip. Tip was so fun!! .About 10:30 pm, Maria came in house. I had a good time there. Thank you Srallow and Maria.

Today was our last class. Although I didn’t like homework, I liked Anita’s class. Anita is beauty. A photo which Anita was 18 years old was so beauty. Anita was powerful, kind and funny. She is a good teacher. Thank you teaching us many things.
After ESL, we went to the lake. Before we swim, we looked at a one group. They were Japanese women and some children. I thought that they married Americans, and moved in Minnesota. And we swam. Swimming was so fun. About 3:30 pm, we came back bethel university, and I came back home. On the way to, I talked to Pole, he was our school driver. He always took us till Bethel University, so we gave him a letter. He gladded. I know that recently he married and he has a child. I want him to be happy. Wednesday/6/August Today is a special day!!!! At 1:30 pm, I left school early, because today is a special day. At 2:30 pm, I went back home, and I prepared to go to hotel. She is Japanese exchange student.” Then, I realized that I’m a exchange student. I couldn’t talk English very well, but they aspected me. Although we have difference skin color, we are a person.
After introduction, we heard Obama’s lecture. He was really good person. I think it’s hard to govern, but he can do it. I hope his victory. I think he will be a new president in America. At 6:30 pm, this reception is done. I think I’m a so lucky girl. I fad so fun time there.

Japanese can’t speak pronunciation of R. Also, we can’t tell difference of R and L. So, we practice a pronunciation of R. Then, Kailey gave us some candy. We got a candy into my mouse, at that we did pronunciation of R. And we could say R so fluently. I was really glad. After that, we met Linda, who is Joel’s wife. When we talk to her, she said. “When I talk to Japanese people, I can listen that R’s pronunciation seems like D.” I thought we have to study more and more, and we have to practice of pronunciation.

Nursing center

I went to shop. I saw guns!!!! (To hunt animals.) I was so scary:-( And we went to Mcdnardos. It has some shakes, it's size was so big!! I could not drink enough.

I woke up at 6:00 am. When I went to down stair, there was nobody. But soon Maria came there. She seemed to oversleep. I secure. I ate some strawberry and blueberry. After that, I went to school. First, we took Anita's class. She is our English teacher. Her pronunciation is clear, so I can understand her English. After class, we took other class. We learned about Philosophy, tommorow we will take class about Psychology. I understood about philosophy (a little :-)). And we had linch, and we asked in Bethel university's students about American cultuer, about their and romance. They were so cute. They were smile during lecture. I thought that it is important for us to smile all the time. I had a hun time there. At 4:00 pm, class is done, and we talke to my friends about our host family a lot. I want to go other host hamily's house. And I ride Maria's car. I was tired because I'm not accustomed to new life. I slept soon.
